Robyn here and I am starving! Whoa, you say. How can that be? This is the woman who talks about food, writes about food, collects recipes like she is going to live forever, and thinks a day spent in the kitchen is a fun time.
The problem is that I had foot surgery for a detached Achilles tendon in April. I can’t walk and must get around with my knee resting on a scooter. This posture has played havoc with my knee and back. So, my time in the kitchen has been limited.
I did plan ahead to some extent. I prepared some things and had them in the freezer. Still it was difficult. Hard boiled eggs seemed like a good idea. However, getting a saucepan from the sink to the stove with one hand while steering the scooter with the other is no easy task. So, I decided to supplement with some already prepared food from the grocery store. I tried several different things and would not recommend any of them. Delivery? Something like Door Dash only delivers fast food in my area. Nothing from better restaurants. So, the problem is that I am starving for my own cooking.
What will I do when I can finally walk and drive again? I have decided my first meal will be a steak from my favorite butcher/deli/wine shop, Smiley Brothers. A prime aged steak, baked potato, and salad with my homegrown tomatoes and blue cheese. Add a glass of pinot noir and it will be a feast. Then, a Greek pasta with shrimp and feta cheese that I have been craving. After that, some favorite summer desserts to share with friends. Next, I think I will go through some of those recipes I have saved and crack open that new cookbook I just ordered. Whatever it is, it will be good, cooked by me, and exactly what I want. I do like my cooking!
